About the Expert Panel

Webinar facilitated by Becky George, HiNZ board chair.

Panel participants are:

  • Scott Herschberger, National Manager, Health Metrics New Zealand
  • Karen Lake, Operations Clinical and Quality Manager, Ryman Healthcare
  • Gillian Robinson, Director of Healthcare, Healthcare Compliance Solutions Ltd
  • Swithin Foote, Head of Integration, Middleware NZ

Scott Herschberger
National Manager
Health Metrics New Zealand

Scott Herschberger is the National Manager of Health Metrics New Zealand. American by birth and Kiwi by volition, Scott has become a fixture of New Zealand’s Aged Care and Disability Support Communities. His international approach to business has helped Health Metrics become New Zealand’s number one provider of enterprise solutions for Health and Social Care systems.

Karen Lake
Operations Clinical and Quality Manager
Ryman Healthcare

Karen Lake is a registered nurse who has worked in aged care in New Zealand for 30 years and has built a career based on clinical excellence.

Over the last decade, Karen had the responsibility of the clinical and quality oversight for two of New Zealand’s largest retirement village companies and was also, instrumental in the development and design of the 1CHART medication management system.

At Ryman Healthcare Karen has been a key member of the team who developed and rolled out Ryman Healthcare’s myRyman Care application.

myRyman was developed from scratch and has created a revolution in clinical care by eliminating paperwork and collecting data crucial to better clinical outcomes. Karen talks about the application as a super smart and practical tool that captures all information about a resident, in the moment and supports continuity of care.

Gillian Robinson

Director of Healthcare
Healthcare Compliance Solutions Ltd

Author of the book “Excellence in residential care: a guide for managers and nurses”, Registered Nurse and Lead Auditor, Gillian has over 30 years experience as a health professional, quality systems developer and business owner of Healthcare Compliance Solutions Ltd (HCSL).

Gillian, nationally recognised for her work in quality systems development in the residential care setting, is a member of the NZ Aged Care Nursing Leadership Group and Clinical informatics Leadership Network.

Working with over 65 individual aged care services, Gillian identified inequity between the software resources available to corporate owned, and independently owned aged care services. This inequity, in conjunction with constraints on staff led her to design HCSL aged care software. The integration with Medimap medication administration systems will further streamline access to resident care information   for remote assessment and treatment planning.

Having been appointed as the temporary manager at Rosewood Resthome and Hospital during the COVID-19 outbreak, Gillian supported them to use HCSL cloud-based software (which includes NZ bench-marking and clinical modules) for telehealth support.  This software is now also being used in community health service provision and extensively in retirement villages throughout NZ.

Swithin Foote

Head of Integration
Middleware NZ

Swithin is a highly-experienced Integration Architect, delivery and technical team leader, Swithin has been with Middleware New Zealand since Sept 2014. He has over 15 years of Integration development, solution design and architecture expertise.
