Who is HiNZ?

Health Informatics New Zealand (HiNZ) is the trusted community for digital health in Aotearoa, connecting the health workforce with industry, innovation, and education and research to enable digital health transformation.

We bring people together from across the sector to share knowledge, build capability, and support change through events, media, and an active online community. Digital Health Week, our annual event, brings the digital health community together for our annual conference (the largest digital health event in New Zealand) and a range of workshops focussed on particular groups or topics of interest to our community

Founded in 2000, HiNZ is an incorporated society governed by an elected Board, with a small professional team supporting delivery and engagement across the sector.

We do not have a majority funder from any single organisation. This supports our independence and our role as a neutral, trusted community for the sector.

What is health informatics?

Health informatics sits at the intersection of healthcare, information technology, and data. It focuses on how information is collected, shared, and used to support decision-making and improve health outcomes.

Often referred to as digital health eHealth, or health intelligence, health informatics underpins the ability of the health system to deliver safe, effective, and connected care.

At its core, it is about getting the right information to the right person at the right time.
