Who is HiNZ?

Health Informatics New Zealand (HiNZ) is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the field of digital health, by delivering events, media, and professional development opportunities. Its annual conference is the largest digital health event in New Zealand.

The organisation was founded in 2000 and is an incorporated society with a volunteer elected board and a paid management team. The HiNZ constitution contains the governing regulations of our organisation.

Membership

The HiNZ member community is diverse and includes allied health professionals, nurses, midwives, doctors, managers, analysts, technologists, consultants, vendors, policy makers, government personnel, academics and students. HiNZ builds and strengthens connections between these professional groups and provides an impartial meeting place for sharing ideas.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in digital health. You don't need a specific qualification to become a member of HiNZ. Join now.

Who funds HiNZ?

The funding for HiNZ comes from membership fees, event registration fees, trade exhibitions, sponsorship and government grants. HiNZ has no majority funder from any one institution, company or government department, which enables HiNZ to be independent and neutral.

What is health informatics?

Health informatics is the science behind the convergence of healthcare, information technology and business. The practice of health informatics deals with the storage, retrieval, sharing, and optimal use of data that relates to human health, and considers how we use this knowledge for problem solving and decision making. Sometimes called digital health or e-health, the field of health informatics underpins a nation’s ability to deliver an affordable, flexible health system that provides better health outcomes to citizens.

At its core, health informatics is about getting the right information to the right person at the right time. It is critical to the delivery of information to healthcare professionals so they can deliver the most appropriate care.
