SIIM 2022 Annual Meeting - Imaging Informatics in Aotearoa New Zealand

This session will showcase imaging informatics within NZ, exploring a range of perspectives from a start-up, provider and vendor.

Presentations will provide a review and insight into innovation in the imaging informatics sector, including use of enhanced safety approaches using AI, as well as image sharing approaches. Also, the start-up journey for a company entering the imaging informatics space, covering research and development, commercialisation and global expansion. The final presentation will cover the role of vendors in supporting and leading innovation, as well as customer trends and risks. Rounding out the webinar will be a facilitated Q&A with the news editor of NZ’s peak digital health body, Health Informatics NZ.

Dr Lloyd McCann is the Chief Executive Officer for Mercy Radiology and Clinics, and is the Head of Digital Health for Healthcare Holdings Limited.

He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators. Lloyd worked as a Beachheads Advisor for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. Whilst based in the UK, Lloyd worked as the Medical Director for Harris Corporation, Healthcare Solutions and was an elected member on the TechUK Health and Social care Board. He completed a mixed clinical and managerial fellowship at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust in Emergency Medicine and Performance Improvement.
Lloyd has worked across public and private health in New Zealand in clinical, consultancy and leadership roles. He was a member of the Expert Panel that conducted the review of the NZ Health and Disability System over 2018-2020. He is currently also a member of the ACC Health Services Strategy Advisory Board.

Lloyd is an equity advocate and an advocate for digitally enabled, value-based care.

Dr Ju Zhang

Ju Zhang is a medical software innovator who has brought 15 years of academic research into commercial and clinical usage.

With a background in AI and biomedical engineering, and post-doctoral research in New Zealand, Imperial College London, and Stanford University, Ju co-founded Formus Labs to greatly improve the efficiency and outcomes of joint replacement surgery.

Today Formus Labs, in partnership with global orthopedic manufacturers, provides automated, rapid, and personalised 3D pre-operative planning to orthopedic surgeons in New Zealand, Australia, and soon North America.

  

 

 

Martin Gunn

Martin is a graduate of the University of Auckland School of Medicine and completed his radiology training in Auckland.  Following that, he undertook fellowships in abdominal imaging and emergency radiology at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, USA where he remained for almost 20 years. Before leaving the University of Washington in 2022, Martin was Professor and Vice Chair (Informatics) and the Speciality CMIO for Radiology.

As an imaging researcher and educator, Martin has authored more than 100 scientific papers, abstracts, edited two medical imaging textbooks, and has presented at major radiology meetings worldwide. He remains an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington and remains involved in ongoing research as co-principal investigator of an RO1 award funded by the US National Cancer Institute. This project uses machine learning to determine the downstream clinical and cost impact of imaging incidentalomas.

He is now the Chief Medical Officer of TRG Imaging, based in Auckland.

 

 

Anna Shaw

Anna Shaw is the Commercial Leader for GE Healthcare New Zealand. She has worked for GE Healthcare for over 17 years, with experience in both Australia and New Zealand in product education, sales and business development in New Zealand. A key part of her current role is development and coaching of the GE Healthcare Commercial team in New Zealand, and she is passionate about improving clinical care pathways and health equality.

Prior to joining GE she managed a comprehensive private radiology department in a large hospital based in Australia. Having initially trained as a Medical Radiation Technologist in New Zealand, Anna has clinical experience working public and private radiology departments and hospitals in New Zealand, Australia and the UK.

Anna holds a Bachelor of Health Science in Medical Imaging and Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from Monash University.
