Nursing Informatics Special Interest Group (HiNZ-NI)

HiNZ-NI publishes a free quarterly eNewsletter with digital health updates of relevance to nurses.

What is Nursing Informatics?

The HiNZ nursing informatics special interest group (HiNZ-NI) supports the development of nursing informatics in New Zealand.

The IMIA-NI definition of nursing informatics is: “Nursing Informatics science and practice integrates nursing, its information and knowledge and their management with information and communication technologies to promote the health of people, families and communities world-wide.”

The NIWG executive serves three primary functions:

  1. To encourage nurses to engage with health informatics and with HiNZ.
  2. To provide advice to the HINZ Board on how best to maximise engagement with the New Zealand nursing community.
  3. To oversee the nomination and selection process for the Robyn Carr Cup for Excellence in Nursing Informatics, which is awarded annually at the HiNZ Conference.
Guidelines: Informatics for nurses entering practice 2018
Are you working in nursing education or about to enter practice as a Registered Nurse? The booklet Guidelines: Informatics for nurses entering practice 2018 identifies the key knowledge, skills and behaviours beginning nurses need to display in nursing informatics. These were developed for the New Zealand context and are based on four principles outlined for practice. To learn more download the Guidelines: Informatics for nurses entering practice here.
