WEBINAR: And then COVID-19 happened…..an update on the national Health Information Platform

Thursday 5th November

Evening - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Presenter: Darren Douglass, GM Digital Strategy and Investment, Data and Digital, Ministry of Health

On 2 September 2019, Cabinet approved the development of a business case for the national Health Information Platform to improve access to and use of health information as a key enabler of an effective and sustainable health and disability system. The Ministry engaged with the sector and other agencies to develop a programme business case that was scheduled for Cabinet review in March 2020. The programme case proposed a phased delivery approach over four tranches with investment linked to the delivery of value. nHIP was supported as a key enabler by the H&DS Review. And then COVID-19 happened.

This is an update on the status of nHIP and what to expect next:

  • A Cabinet decision on the nHIP programme business case was deferred in March 2020 due to COVID-19
  • The context and purpose of nHIP remains unchanged but with the addition of valuable learnings, and delivery, as a result of COVID-19
  • Development of an investment case for tranche 1 has now recommenced
  • Research and discovery is a key focus to inform the business case and engagement with the sector is critical
