Guest speakers Shayne Hunter, Deputy Director-General Data & Digital, Ministry of Health and Emily Mailes, Principal Advisor Data & Digital within the Transition Unit provided another update on the digital and data mandate that has been outlined as part of the reform, and opportunities for the digital health community to contribute. After the presentations there was a Q & A session with the online audience.

Shayne Hunter
Deputy Director-General, Data & Digital
Ministry of Health

Shayne Hunter joined the Ministry of Health in March 2019. He has spent the last 19 years in the health and disability sector where he developed a strong a passion for information and technology enabled improvements for the system and for the health outcomes for individuals and our population. His previous role was as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Capital & Coast, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa DHBs where he was a member of the ELT for each district health board. He was also previously the chair of the Central Region DHB’s CIO group and the Chair of the Health Sector National IS Leaders Forum. Prior to his role as CIO, he was based at the Ministry and led a number of national initiatives in the area of medicines management. Shayne started his career with IBM before leaving to establish a number of start-up business based on emerging technologies. From there he has held delivery and leadership roles in government and the private sector.

 

Emily Mailes
Principal Advisor, Data & Digital
Health and Disability Review Transition Unit


Emily is the lead policy advisor for digital and data within the Transition Unit for Health Reform. Emily is also a Director at EY, in the Oceania Health Practice, and advises health organisations across Australia and New Zealand on digital and data strategy. Emily’s previous role at EY was global lead for Digital Health,  during which time she worked in over 20 countries, helping health systems adapt new technologies to deliver more effective healthcare services. Emily has an academic background in clinical informatics and completed a research fellowship at Stanford Medical School.

 

 

 

Brian Biggs
Director, Customer Relations & Sales NZ
InterSystems

Brian Biggs is Director, Customer Relations and Sales, New Zealand for InterSystems, a creative data technology provider dedicated to helping customers solve the most critical scalability, interoperability and speed problems. Based in Auckland, Biggs leads the company’s New Zealand operations, providing local resources to a growing customer base and ensuring that InterSystems is responsive to their needs.

Biggs has a technology career spanning over 15 years. He has spent most of the last decade leading regional and global delivery teams to deliver complex technology programs to healthcare providers in both advanced and emerging economies. He was Services Director, New Zealand and later VP Services, Asia Pacific and Chief Operating Officer, Hospitals for Orion Health before working as Chief Operating Officer for New Zealand digital payments company, Centrapay.

Biggs holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Management and Commercial Law from The University of Auckland and in 2007 was a member of the Plowman Craven professional cycling team in Europe.

Rebecca was previously news editor at Digital Health Intelligence in London and prior to that, was the senior health reporter at The Christchurch Press, where she won a NZ Canon Media Award and a NZ Reporting Diversity award. Based in Auckland, she is committed to communicating news, experience and knowledge throughout New Zealand’s data and digital health sector.
