Making sense of it all - an overview of explainable AI

The practical use of AI in sensitive areas such as healthcare raises a range of questions, especially relating to bias, discrimination and trust. Explainability, especially the “right […] to obtain an explanation” [Regulation 2016/679, European Union], has been considered one way to address these concerns. This presentation will cover what is meant by explainability and explainable AI (xAI), and cover what explanatory techniques, especially focusing on practical uses in healthcare.

Biography

Mike Merry Chief Technology Officer The Clinician
Mike is a full stack developer, mathematician, data scientist and classical musician. He leads the technology development at The Clinician, developing their SaaS Digital Health Platform, and is undertaking doctoral studies in Computer Science and Health Informatics developing new algorithms to create explainable neural networks.
