CareHQ surpasses 250,000 consultations as demand for virtual healthcare continues to grow

SECTOR UPDATE - CareHQ CareHQ is marking more than a quarter of a million consultations delivered to New Zealanders, reflecting growing demand for faster, more accessible healthcare and additional support for general practice. For many patients, virtual care is reducing wait times, improving access outside standard clinic hours, and providing timely support when in-person appointments are difficult to secure. At its peak, CareHQ is now delivering over 500 consultations per day, helping patients across the country connect with a GP or nurse when they need care.
“Reaching this milestone is really about the number of people we’ve been able to help,” says CareHQ Chief Executive Brett Butler. “Every consultation represents someone getting timely advice, treatment, or reassurance, often when access would otherwise have been limited.”
CareHQ’s expanded clinical model is also helping ease pressure on its GPs. Over 10% of patients are now seen by nurses, who support a wide range of conditions including dedicated sore-throat, UTI, sick-note and sexual health clinics for those needing same-day care. This allows GPs to focus on more complex and acute cases.
CareHQ Clinical Director, Dr Firdaus Aziz says the service continues to attract high-quality clinicians, with referrals from existing team members proving to be a large source of new GP recruitment.
“The flexibility to work from anywhere in New Zealand - or even overseas - and choose preferred days and hours means we have been able to retain many experienced GPs in the workforce. That flexibility is helping fuel our continued growth.” CareHQ continues to broaden the services available through virtual care. Recent additions include a GP-supported bowel screening service, with a spot and skin check service launching in the coming month. These services aim to make it easier for New Zealanders to access early detection and preventative care without unnecessary barriers. As demand for healthcare grows, virtual services like CareHQ are playing an increasing role in improving access, supporting general practice, and helping patients receive timely care wherever they are.
