SECTOR UPDATE - Webtools

Two of Aotearoa’s leading digital health innovators, Webtools and Cervin, are making it easier for patients to access their specialist referral information directly through Centrik-powered patient portal apps.

This partnership integrates Webtools’ Centrik platform with Cervin’s SR Referrals, enabling patients to view their secondary care referral information, such as referral documents, status updates, and activities, within the same app they use to manage their primary care records.

SR Referrals is the go-to referral tool for GPs and specialists, providing NZ’s largest and most trusted directory of private health services. With over 2 million referrals processed and integrated with patient management systems, SR reduces delays for patients with features like On-Refer and Quick Procedure Referrals.

Launched in 2021, Centrik powers Aotearoa’s fastest-growing patient portals, including its flagship Well app, The Doctors app (for Green Cross Health), Better Health Outcomes, and the recently announced Tō Mai app, rolling out across Tū Ora Compass Health and Health Hawke’s Bay PHO regions.

Centrik’s apps provide patients with a modern digital front door to their healthcare, offering real-time access to health records, appointment bookings, repeat prescription requests, video consults, and messaging with their care team. Now, with SR Referrals integration, patients will also gain visibility into their specialist referral journey, a key step in improving continuity of care and empowering patients to stay informed.

“This partnership is a major step forward in creating a truly connected digital health experience,” said Al Duncan, Chief Growth Officer at Webtools. “By integrating SR Referrals with Centrik’s patient apps, we’re giving patients seamless access to their healthcare journey from primary care to specialist referrals all in one place. It’s about empowering patients to stay informed, engaged, and at the centre of their care every step of the way.”

“This integration brings enormous value not just to patients but to specialists and across the health system. ” said Carmel Cervin, CEO at Cervin. “By making referral information more accessible and transparent through Centrik’s patient apps, we’re streamlining communication, reducing follow-up queries, and enabling providers to focus more on delivering high-quality care . We are excited to be working with Centrik on such a significant step toward a more efficient and connected healthcare system for everyone.”

This integration aligns with the evolving direction of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, as outlined in recent national strategies and the 2025 digital health investment plan. By embedding specialist referral information directly into Centrik’s patient portal apps, Webtools and Cervin are contributing to a more connected, patient-centred healthcare system. It also supports the goals of the New Zealand Health Plan and the Government’s increased focus on digital innovation, infrastructure modernisation, and equitable access to care – it enhances transparency and continuity of care for patients, reduces administrative burden for providers, and helps build a digital foundation that will support the healthcare needs of future generations.

Together, Webtools and Cervin are delivering a connected, transparent healthcare experience that benefits patients, providers, and the entire New Zealand health system.
