Applications for the 2022 intake of the Fellowship of Health Informatics New Zealand Programme (FHiNZ) are now open, and you can apply here.
Founding Fellow of HiNZ and Healthpoint chief executive Kate Rhind said in a recent eHealth Talk podcast interview that the great strength of FHiNZ is the huge diversity of skills within the programme.
She said it is a great privilege to be part of the FHiNZ community and encourages others to get involved.
Founding Fellow Colin McKenzie, sales and marketing director for Sysmex, has also featured on an eHealth Talk podcast and believes creating the fellowship is one of the greatest things HiNZ has ever done.
“Being a fellow is about the amazing connections you start to make,” he said .
“I often now have conversations with a number of the other fellows that I wouldn’t have collaborated or engaged with in the past and it adds huge value to what we are all trying to achieve for the health system.”

Founding fellow Martin Wilson, clinical leader for IT, Pegasus Health, said on a recent FHiNZ podcast episode that medical informaticians need to be the kind of people who accept rewards in different sorts of ways. Being told he had been chosen as a founding FHINZ member was “worth a lot more than money”.
“It’s about being valued by your colleagues… and gives you access to a network of like-minded people, which you can use to make things better for patients,” he said.
HiNZ announced the programme’s Founding Fellows in eHealthNews.nz in March 2021 and their bios and photos are available on the HiNZ website. Successful applicants to the 2021 intake were announced that August.
Applications for the 2022 intake close on Sunday July 17, 2022. Please contact Charis Frethey, HiNZ Sector Engagement Manager sector@hinz.org.nz if you have any questions.
