NZ Pass Verifier available to download
Monday, 22 November 2021
NEWS - eHealthNews.nz editor Rebecca McBeth The NZ Pass Verifier app to scan and verify My Vaccine Passes is available to download as the Government confirms the country will move into the traffic light system on 3 December.
The app can be downloaded from the Apple and Google Play app stores and will be tested by hairdressers in Auckland who can operate with vaccine passes as of this Thursday.
Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins says “the app helps give business certainty that they can quickly manage vaccine certificates and make sure they can easily check that their customers are all fully vaccinated.”
Hospitality venues, close-contact businesses, large gatherings, events and gyms are some of the types of businesses that will need to verify customer’s vaccination status if they wish to operate in higher risk levels under the new Covid-19 Protection Framework.
Businesses requiring proof of vaccination status will scan a customer’s My Vaccine Pass with the verifier app, which will show a person’s name and date of birth, along with a green tick recognising the official QR code that is embedded in the pass. The app does not store a person’s data or whether they are vaccinated, only that the pass is valid and it can be used without an internet connection. The Verifier App cannot be used to scan international travel vaccination certificates.
Technical guidance for NZ Pass Verifier is available on the Ministry of Health website and additional guidance for businesses using the verifier under the COVID Protection Framework will be out later this week. People will also be able to call 0800 800606 for assistance.
“Earlier this month, the Ministry published technical specifications for My Vaccine Pass and its verification. Some companies will integrate the technology into existing digital journeys or pre-verification ticketing processes,” Minister Hipkins says.
Around 1.4 million My Vaccine Passes have been generated so far since the system went live on 17 November.
