SECTOR UPDATE - Triage-Plus A multi-agency presentation at the Christchurch Justice and Emergency Services Precinct Emergency Operations Centre was recently held to announce the launch of Triage-Plus, a software solution designed to save lives in mass casualty events.
Triage-Plus is the brainchild of Dean Brown, an intensive care paramedic with first-hand experience of mass casualty incidents. Dean’s involvement in the Christchurch earthquake and AL Noor Mosque shooting emergency response highlighted the need for a centralised system for triaging and tracking patients that could be accessed by hospitals and all emergency services. When multiple patients are injured and time is critical, Dean believed a technology solution could be created to provide first responders and hospital staff with a better way. Providing real-time data to emergency services, hospitals and agencies, Triage-Plus improves communication and provides crucial visibility on patient status, allowing more efficient triage and tracking processes. The launch event, attended by emergency service agencies, health sector staff, government agencies and via video conference by those outside of Christchurch was a huge milestone for Brown and the Triage-Plus team who have been developing, testing and trailing the solution for the past year. The event included a presentation by Brown and Consultant Emergency Physician Dr Suzi Hamilton, a live product demonstration, and a mass casualty simulation showing Triage-Plus in action at a live shooter event. “This was a fantastic opportunity to present Triage-Plus to all those agencies involved in mass casualty events,” said Brown. “We received some really positive feedback from the audience and had interesting discussion with our guests, many who indicated they would like to have access to it immediately.”
The event also provided the Triage-Plus founders with the opportunity to thank those who have supported them to achieve this milestone. “We are incredibly grateful to all those who have given their time, provided insights and been involved in the product trials. Thanks also to TSB for their Good Stuff award, generous grant and ongoing support which has enabled us to complete the development of the product," said Brown.
The focus now for Brown and the team is to work with pilot sites to implement Triage-Plus into their emergency response processes. “We have a number of agencies keen to work with the product in their environments to fully understand the benefits it can provide for both mass casualty events as well as daily operations. We are excited that Triage-Plus is now ready and available for emergency services and agencies to purchase.” For more information, please contact Georgina Hunter M: 0274747437 E:georgina@morethanwords.co.nz www.triage-plus.com
