NEWS – CiLN Advisory Panel member Rebecca George

What a year 2020 has been!
Despite all that has occurred across the health and disability system this year, CiLN has continued to support its membership and key partners across essential work in response to COVID-19 and in expectation of the
outcomes of the Health and Disability System Review recommendations for action.
We are delighted that we’ve achieved key deliverables this year, including the publication of the Clinical Informatics Position Statement in May.
The network also sent at open letter to Dr Ashley Bloomfield, reinforcing
the need to capture and amplify the digital changes that have occurred in the health and disability system due to COVID-19.
This letter was referenced by Dr Bloomfield in a letter sent to DHB chief executives regarding the provision of targeted data and digital funding through the recovery phase.
Now in its second year, the Clinical Informatics Leadership Award attracted six high calibre candidates from across New Zealand and clinical specialties and nominations celebrated cross sector collaboration, excellent communication skills and humble leadership.
More than 1000 public votes were
cast and Lara Hopley, anaesthetist and Clinical Advisor Digital Innovations at Waitematā DHB, was announced the winner at the Auckland
HiNZ Networking Event on November 19 at Spark Health
At a governance level, we said goodbye to our two founding network chairs Ruth Large and Karen Blake and welcomed Alex Forsyth, who joins Nathan Kershaw who stays on in the co-chair role.
Next
year will hold more opportunities and we are keen to make the most of them. As we reflect on 2020 to take learnings forward, we want continue to embed our position within the system as a forum of expertise, promoting workforce capacity, providing
expert advice and information and highlighting the needs of consumers and system integration.
Early thoughts from the CiLN Connect event in Auckland this month were to focus on workforce in 2021 and ensuring that CiLN’s voice is heard in
the new Transition Unit and a focus on clinical informatics is part of the transformation of the health system.
If you have ideas on how this can be achieved and want to contribute to work in this space, please get in touch with one of
the co-chairs or Advisory Panel members of leave your thoughts on this thread on Discourse.
