InterSystems has released global functionality for its TrakCare® unified healthcare information system to help clinicians screen patients for COVID-19. The functionality, which has been in use globally since February and uses World Health Organisation guidance, has been updated as the WHO changes its guidance.

As well as the special COVID-19 screening functionality, there have been COVID-19 updates to TrakCare’s analytics dashboard and expanded support for telehealth and virtual visits to support social distancing measures.
TrakCare’s COVID-19 support includes a scored screening assessment to inform whether the patient does or does not meet the WHO clinical criteria for infection. It includes a link to the tracking app provided by Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering for clinicians to conveniently review epidemiology of the disease.
Icons within TrakCare alert clinicians about a patient’s COVID-19 screening status. A decision support rule also notifies clinicians when a patient with a temperature in excess of 38 degrees Celsius has not been screened.
The system provides quick access to the screening assessment so that it can be promptly completed. A worklist also shows all patients with a screening indication for infection allowing clinicians to initiate interventions directly from the list.
In addition, a suggested decision support rule notifies responsible care providers about individual patients with screening indications for infections. The rule can be modified locally to include proposed interventions and/or infection control consultation using TrakCare Orders and/or Order Sets.
COVID-19 analytics dashboards
Complementing the screening tools, new analytics dashboards in TrakCare helps to analyse the use and outcomes of the screening assessment and compare them to the patient’s COVID-19 alerts.
The COVID-19 Screening Dashboard provides the ability to analyse organisational use of the COVID-19 screening assessment and screening outcomes compared to the number of cases with alerts for positive COVID-19 diagnosis. A COVID-19 Laboratory Testing Dashboard also provides the ability to analyse the lab’s performance of COVID-19 testing.
Telehealth and virtual visits with TrakCare
TrakCare also offers expanded support for telehealth and virtual visits building on its initial Skype integration, which was a quick-and-easy way to launch Skype calls in context directly from the patient record.
The expanded telehealth framework is flexible in that it can be deployed with tools other than Skype by a patient providing their personal ID, email address or phone number. When making appointments for telehealth consultations, TrakCare users can now store a meeting link for URL-based services that is unique to the scheduled appointment. The link can be displayed in a column in appointment lists or icon profiles, making it easy for clinicians to connect with the patient.
The expanded offering also includes a configurable framework for setting up OAuth servers for secure authentication using InterSystems IRIS for Health, as well as the API calls required to connect to meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Google Meet.
