We have a research team at Unitec who are part of a $12.2 million MBIE funded, six-year project that aims to create novel security tools and capabilities which return control of data to cloud computing users, for NZ companies to commercialise. Our team are specifically researching and developing in the area of data resiliency and disaster recovery and we are currently working with a NZ cloud-service provider on the co-development and commercialisation of one our software developments.

One area that we see an opportunity for is in the health space. Obviously, there is a big need for security and resiliency of data in the health space as more and more companies migrate their data to the cloud. We would be interested in working with a company in the health space to co-develop and commercialise a tool that targets the health industry’s IT needs.

In addition, we are soon to recruit a Post Doc Research Fellow for this work. Their main duties are to conduct innovative industry-engaged research projects, contribute to fundamental research for future research and commercialisation activities, contribute to the production of prototypes, proof of concepts, reports, patents, publications in top-tier refereed journals and the awarding of research grants.

We are thinking that this is a great opportunity for someone to work part-time in industry and part-time in academia, or alternatively for a company who may have a staff member who is keen on doing research, writing papers and keeping up with an academic career where we could second them part-time for the project.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • 01A doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related disciplines.
  • A strong track record of top-tier research publications in the networking and cloud-computing community, e.g. at CCS (ACM), NSDI (USENIX), CloudCom (IEEE) and respective journals.
  • Experience in the Linux working environment and strong programming skills in at least one of the following languages: C/C++, C#, Java, Python, Go, MATLAB, or R.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in solving cloud service problems using scalable parallel computers and large data systems.
