The following courses are provided through formal tertiary institutes in New Zealand for those that are interested in pursuing further education in health informatics. These incur standard fees, given as a lump sum figure below, though they may vary slightly based on the elected papers, where appropriate. These courses generally require a portion of on sight learning, and can be done on a part time or full time basis, depending on the suitability of the student. They generally take a minimum of 6 months, with a possibility of taking up to 4 years to complete. It is also required to have an appropriate undergraduate degree, or in some cases, a level of experience in the field that is equivalent to having studied one of the relevant fields.
