Synopsis

Using technology to enable enhanced collaboration to deliver the designated RNPCH recertification programme across a large geographic region

Senior nurse leads from the five DHBs and eight PHOs in the Midland region created the ‘Midland Collaboration’, with the aim of developing a Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) accredited Designated RN Prescriber in Community Health (RNPCH) recertification programme. A large volume of work was required to gain accreditation from NCNZ and most of this was completed remotely using technology, due to the geographical spread of the nurse leads.

A fundamental aspect of the course is teaching and the provision of opportunities to ask questions and interact with Mātanga Tapuhi NPs- the authorised prescribers who deliver the virtual group teaching modules. Given the large geographical Midland region, a person-to-person designated RNPCH recertification programme is not practical, due to accessibility, therefore the group teaching component of the course was developed to be delivered entirely via ZOOM. To date, two courses have been completed with a total of over 120 nurses participating, and evaluations to date have been positive.

This presentation will cover key learnings from ZOOM teaching and developing a Midland wide designated RNPCH programme, benefits and challenges with remote working, participant outcomes summary, and moving to online polls.
