SECTOR UPDATE - Tu Ora Compass Health

Health Hawke’s Bay and Tū Ora Compass Health are securing their digital network with a new collaborative partnership and creation of a shared Data and Digital Team under a signed Heads of Agreement.

The new team, which met in person for the first time last week, involves Data and Digital staff from both organisations working under one structure, allowing the two teams to share resources, work collectively and align strategies to deliver the best care for Primary Healthcare providers across the greater Wellington Region and Hawkes Bay.

Chief executive for Tū Ora Justine Thorpe is confident that the partnership will allow for smarter outcomes across both Primary Health Organisations.

“This closer working relationship will increase responsiveness to common technological issues that our primary healthcare staff and providers are increasingly facing by allowing one team of experts to quickly come together to identify and find solutions.

“As digital technology expands and grows, new problems emerge that often need a swift and multipronged approach to solve, and we are committed to providing our network with high-quality support and advice. Our staff bring a diverse range of technical skills, professional backgrounds and lived experience .”

Health Hawke’s Bay chief executive Irihāpeti Mahuika says the combined ownership of the team between the two Primary Health Organisations will strengthen the workforce across the whole organisation.

“We are seeing the benefits of our shared Chief Information Officer work across both teams with innovative and quality strategies to maximise growth in technology for primary healthcare.

“Digital technology continues to grow in our environment and is as important as ever with the rise and implementation of Artificial Intelligence.

“An example of this is our recent Artificial Intelligence Scribe pilot allowing clinicians to spend less time on clinical documentation processes and more quality time with patients."

Tū Ora Chief Information Officer, Matthew Lord, says collaboration enables a more resilient and future-ready digital workforce.

“Having a single integrated Data and Digital team allows us to align our expertise, reduce duplication, and focus on supporting clinicians and providers with reliable, modern digital systems that enable better patient care.”

This exciting development reflects both organisations’ commitment to collaboration, innovation, and equitable support for primary healthcare providers across the rohe!
