SECTOR UPDATE - Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora
The Shared Digital Health Record is being developed by Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ), working with healthcare consumers, health professionals and health IT suppliers. It is a clinical data connector that will enhance the health information available through shared health record systems, improving what is already in place. The new data connector will give health providers a more complete picture of a patient’s health information wherever they are in the country, including in emergencies.
Pilot with early adopter general practices
Health NZ has begun working with a small group of early adopter general practices to test and refine the processes practices will go through when sharing patient information to the Shared Digital Health Record. Participating practices need a supporting practice management system (currently MedTech and Indici). Practices and their primary health organisations (PHOs) are provided with a guide about sharing patient information with the Shared Digital Health Record. Practices will also be given posters, brochures and communication templates so they can inform patients about information sharing through the Shared Digital Health Record.
Following the pilot, implementation processes and collateral will be refined to support the wider onboarding of practices to the Shared Digital Health Record – see timeframe below.
