McCrae Tech Hospitals Renames to Amalga - Signalling New Direction of AI-Driven Innovation
Wednesday, 27 August 2025
SECTOR UPDATE - Amalga McCrae Tech Hospitals has officially renamed to Amalga, marking both a continuation of its trusted hospital solutions and a new chapter of innovation.
The rename puts the spotlight back on the engine that has always powered the platform. Originally led by Microsoft and later evolved by Orion Health, Amalga has been shaped by real-world hospital partnerships across Australasia and Southeast Asia into one of the most advanced hospital information systems available today.
With McCrae Tech’s 2025 spin-off from Orion Health, founder Ian McCrae and CEO Niru Rajakumar have chosen to return to the platform’s original name: Amalga.
“Hospitals across NZ and Southeast Asia know and trust our system to keep care moving. Renaming to Amalga is about clarity, making sure the platform’s identity matches the value it’s delivered for years,” said Rajakumar.
With the rename comes a new direction: the introduction of Amalga Clinicals and Amalga AI, both set for release in Q4 2025.
Trusted locally, built for global impact
Amalga Clinicals and Amalga AI will enable Amalga to achieve its ultimate ambition: combining trusted infrastructure with cutting-edge AI innovation to transform hospital care. Amalga Clinicals offers web and mobile-friendly compatibility, improved UX, UI and data integration, more intuitive workflows and customisable dashboards.
Amalga AI is built on a multi-modal, multi-agent system and aims to save doctors hours per day by reducing administrative burden and automating documentation, while safeguarding clinical accuracy.
