The Ministry of Health (Manatū Hauora) and the National Medicines Steering Group are working in partnership with Shea, Pita & Associates, and Synergia on a project to understand how to optimise and improve the use of medicines across the health system. This includes accessing medicines, prescribing, dispensing, adherence, and monitoring outcomes.

The project includes targeted consultation with organisations and key stakeholders on how to optimise the use of medicines for both the health system and for patients, whānau, and communities who need and use medicines. We recognise intersectionality - that people often hold multiple identities, and we welcome your participation in any hui that reflects your lived or professional experience. Your voice matters.

How can I take part in the consultation?

You can take part in the consultation through:

• Completing the online survey. The survey is open until 5pm Friday 8th August and can be shared with others you feel it may be relevant for - https://www.research.net/r/medicinesuse
• Take part in an online consultation Hui. Online consultation hui run from Monday 4th August to Friday 15th August 2025. We have a number of hui scheduled to align with improving equity for priority populations. We ask that if you would like to attend, please register for the hui that most aligns with your work, lived experience, or availability.

1. Older adults and kaumātua | Monday August 4th 10.00 am - 11.30 am
2. Hauora Māori | Monday August 4th 2.00pm - 3.30pm
3. Disability & whānau hauā | Tuesday August 5th 10.00am - 11.30am
4. Pacific health | Tuesday August 5th 3.00pm - 4.30pm
5. Rainbow (LGBTQI+), Takatāpui | Wednesday August 6th 11.00am - 12.30pm
6. Data and digital systems | Thursday August 7th 1.00pm - 2.30pm
7. Community based care | Tuesday August 12th 11.00am - 12.30pm
8. Hospital and specialist care | Thursday August 14th 10.00am - 11.30am
9. Rural health | Thursday August 14th 1.00pm - 2.30pm
