SECTOR UPDATE - Alcidion

Alcidion Group Limited (ASX: ALC), a leading provider of data interoperability and clinician focused healthcare solutions is working with Google Cloud to develop a suite of generative AI solutions for healthcare providers.

Modern healthcare faces growing pressures from aging populations, chronic disease burden and resource constraints. Leaders in healthcare have recognised that the system must evolve to avoid being overwhelmed by these issues. Under the guidance of a clinical advisory group, the Alcidion team has identified a range of capabilities that can help transform the clinician experience.

Alcidion, leveraging Gemini on Vertex AI - Google Cloud’s AI platform, has created a suite of generative AI solutions designed to support clinicians and help reduce the administrative overhead associated with using traditional Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) to manage patient care. Included in the suite is Miya Scribe and Miya Insight:

Miya Scribe is an AI enabled Scribe with the capability to capture and transcribe dialogue into the Noting module of the Miya Precision platform. Beyond the capability of early scribe applications, Miya Scribe identifies the relevant content for clinical documentation and populates Miya Noting templates ready for clinical review. Once captured, Miya Precision triggers the tasks required to support patient care and allocates these to the appropriate team member, dramatically reducing the administrative burden for the clinician.

Miya Scribe also includes the capability to analyse clinical notes to identify patient problems, mapping these to hospital coding systems (typically SNOMED-CT, however other coding systems can be used). The coded problems are presented to the clinician for confirmation and addition to the patient record, eliminating hours of work in the coding of patient problems, contributing to patient safety and streamlining hospital funding.

The second new application, Miya Insight, builds on the comprehensive capabilities of Miya Precision to integrate with source systems such as the EMR, Patient Administration System (PAS), imaging, and pathology systems to produce an integrated care record for the patient. This volume of data provides deep insight into the patient history. Miya Insight, distils the patient’s record into a short summary that can be digested quickly, providing critical information to the care team.

Given the comprehensive nature of the integrated care record in Miya Precision, and the fact that it is kept up to date in real time, Miya Insight provides streamlined visibility of allergies, problems, comorbidities, past scans and test results and much more to provide timely information. What is more, because of the summarised nature of Miya Insight, the information can be presented to the clinician using a mobile interface at the point of care.

Kate Quirke, Alcidion CEO said ‘Using advanced technologies to deliver innovation has always been part of how we evolved the Miya Precision Platform. Working with Google Cloud enables us to extend the use of AI into the clinical user interface, eliminating repetitive tasks and streamlining the capture of information. Miya Scribe is the assistant that every clinician needs, and Miya Insight is game changing for anyone reviewing the patient’s record.’

"Targeted generative AI applications have the potential to transform healthcare, and deliver immense tangible impact for medical professionals," said Paul Migliorini, Vice President, Google Cloud Australia & New Zealand. "With Google Cloud's AI solutions, Alcidion is modernising the clinician experience - reducing administrative burden and providing timely insights, allowing them to focus on what matters most: exceptional patient care."

Alcidion is committed to transforming healthcare delivery through AI enabled data-driven solutions that improve patient outcomes, accelerate clinical innovation, and strengthen healthcare systems worldwide.
