Health NZ Te Toka Tumai Auckland has gone live with a new patient administration system (PAS) providing a unified view of patient information across the organisation. Tū Pono Āroha replaces three legacy systems that were 20-29 years old, with a single, integrated platform. The TrakCare system from InterSystems went live on October 31 and Greg Williams, project SRO, says close connection between IT, clinical and operational teams has been essential in the transition. The PAS interfaces with more than 60 other systems, requiring extensive planning and rigorous testing. “We had a 12-14 hour process of switching off, then switching on and transferring millions of data items,” he says. Auckland chose InterSystems in 2021 to deliver its PAS, supporting around 145,000 inpatient and more than one million outpatient visits per year . Darren Jones, InterSystems country manager, Australia and New Zealand says “InterSystems is proud to work with Te Whatu Ora - Te Toka Tumai Auckland and the Tū Pono Āroha team to deliver a unified patient administration system facilitating ongoing data-driven healthcare improvement. “The Auckland team has shown great commitment in preparing for the new system and its go-live and we look forward to continued collaboration with them to improve healthcare outcomes for residents of the Auckland region,” he says. The new PAS is fully compliant with the new HISO standard on iwi affiliation and preferred pronouns and gender. Hear Jen Chesbrough and Marina Parata from Health NZ Te Toka Tumai speak about how the new PAS is driving equity during their presentation on December 4 at Digital Health Week 2024 in Hamilton. See the programme online. And hear more about the roll out from the project leads in eHealthNews next week.
