Michael Dreyer
Michael Dreyer has been appointed deputy chief executive technology and data at ACC.
Dreyer is director sector digital channels at Health NZ - Te Whatu Ora and, prior to that, was the general manager national digital services and chief technology officer at the Ministry of Health.
Dreyer says the ACC role is an exciting opportunity to take on a new challenge, whilst staying within the broader health sector.
“Seven years in Ministry of Health and more recently Health New Zealand has been a career highlight. I have especially enjoyed working with the passionate people in the technology teams and with those across the wider business who give it their all every day to make a difference,” he says.
ACC says Dreyer is a highly regarded sector leader who brings extensive data, digital and technology leadership and delivery experience in both the private and public sectors. He takes up his new role on November 11, 2024.
Emily Mailes Emily Mailes
has joined the Victorian Department of Health as chief eHealth strategy officer and executive director of the strategy, cybersecurity, and assurance branch in the eHealth division.
Mailes was at EY for the past eight years, most recently as director digital health. She was the lead policy advisor for digital and data within the Health NZ Transition Unit, which was in place before the formal establishment of the new organisation in July 2022.
One of the early priorities of the role will be to establish a 10-year vision for data and digital for the health sector in Victoria, that will define the big shifts and quick wins needed to accelerate the adoption of digitally enabled care in Victoria.
"Digital platforms, tools and care models, and high quality and accessible data will be key in supporting the state's reform agenda, enable sustainable service delivery and help to improve equity," Mailes says.
Kari Jones Kari Jones has been appointed executive director – transformation and operational delivery at the Financial Markets Authority – NZ.
Jones joined the Health NZ team as chief data officer in November 2023 where she led the development of the National Data Platform, which went live in July.
She was included in Corinium's 2024 Global Top 100 Innovators in Data and Analytics and was previously the general manager for analytics and insights with Woolworths Group.
“I am thoroughly looking forward to supporting the FMA in the next phase of their transformation alongside the challenge of learning a new industry as well as continuing to keep the Kiwi consumer at the heart of what I do,” Jones says.
Dan Ball Dan Ball
has been appointed head of informatics APAC, Japan and India at Philips.
Ball is passionate about improving health outcomes across the region through meaningful application of technologies across critical care, virtual care, interoperability, radiology, cardiology, pathology and more.
A radiographer by training, he has 17 years of healthcare informatics experience in many regions across the globe, through operations, delivery and commercial roles. He is a member of the APAC Leadership team and Global Enterprise Informatics Commercial Leadership teams.

Kim Hurst Kim Hurst
has been appointed into a new role at Green Cross Health: clinical lead – virtual and practice innovation.
Over the last two years, Hurst was instrumental in developing The Doctors Online’s practice support portfolio, and in her expanded role, will continue to develop innovative care models that leverage new health roles and emerging technologies to support the sustainability and evolution of general practice care.
She says that growing up in rural Mid Wales she experienced first-hand the significant social burden that accessing traditional primary care places on patients and their whānau.
“I am passionate about embracing emerging roles and modern technology solutions to reduce this barrier for patients, as well as leveraging the value technology offers frontline primary care workers to maximise patient-facing time,” she says.
Andrew Bowers
Andrew Bowers has been appointed clinical director of medicine, ED and information technology at Health NZ – Te Whatu Ora, Lakes.
Bowers is an acute internal medicine physician who branched into IT, completing a PG Dip in health informatics.
He formerly led, as the medical director of the South Island IT Alliance, the development of regional information systems for all South Island hospitals. He was also seconded to the Ministry of Health for a year as clinician lead of the Safe Medications Management group, developing the New Zealand framework for digital medication systems.
Bowers says he is looking forward to advancing health IT within the region and New Zealand.
Rowhan Kelly
Rowhan Kelly has been appointed general manager of customer and innovation at Ryman Healthcare, where she leads the customer experience, product and service innovation in the ageing industry.
Kelly’s role focuses on enhancing the Ryman’s resident experience and ensuring retirement living solutions meet the evolving expectations of both future customers and today’s residents. This includes driving innovation across digital, physical, and service models in both New Zealand and Australia.
With extensive experience in the health industry, including key roles at Southern Cross Healthcare and Abano Healthcare, she has a strong background in clinical outcomes, patient experience, and digital innovation.
Kate Lopez
Kate Lopez has recently stepped in to the position of Beamtree’s interim general manager, Australia and New Zealand. Beamtree is best known in New Zealand as the service partner for the Health Roundtable.
Lopez brings a background in health leadership within New Zealand, in clinical and operational leadership positions, and remains based in the country.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity to connect more closely with, and learn from, health leaders across Australia as well as NZ in this interim role, supporting Beamtree’s team to deliver solutions to drive health system improvement and improve outcomes,” she says.
