SECTOR UPDATE - Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora are seeking expressions of interest from the Digital Health Industry to join a newly formed Digital Clinical Safety Industry Working Group.
Digital health technologies can provide significant improvements to quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency, but may also introduce new risks. Just like a car needs a warrant of fitness and various checks and balances to operate safely, digital health systems also require certification for quality and safety.
Learning from international best practice, Health NZ is looking to co-develop a Digital Clinical Safety Framework. Some overseas frameworks include policies, standards, guidelines for technologists and vendors, procurement requirements, service level agreements, regulation, and legislation, among others.
We would like to work with industry to explore which of these might be appropriate for our environment, and understand the potential impacts to ways of working, change and adoption requirements, resourcing, timeframes and other factors.
