Digital mental health provider Just a Thought have launched their latest offering - an online treatment course designed to help the many New Zealanders experiencing health anxiety.

“We’re excited to deliver another specialised digital psychological treatment for New Zealand that will not only make a significant impact in the lives of people experiencing health anxiety, but the mental health sector itself,” says Just a Thought Clinical Lead, Anna Elders.

“Health anxiety is a condition that poses significant challenges for the people experiencing it, their whānau, and the healthcare teams trying to support them. It requires a specific psychological approach that very few of our workforce are trained to deliver. Providing our workforce with a highly effective, tailored digital treatment they can offer as a part of the care provided, without the need for lengthy training or referral barriers, is a game changer. Allowing ki\is the chance to access it for free independently further shifts the dial in enhancing access and choice of care.”

eCBT for the treatment of health anxiety
“Research shows that eCBT is as effective at treating mental health issues as face-to-face CBT, and outcomes can be further enhanced when blended into face-to-face care. Importantly, eCBT equips learners with a kete of skills they can return to at any time through the website,” says Anna.

“The best health interventions we can provide support people to become less reliant on services and more empowered with the essential knowledge and insights they need to traverse future life challenges that show up. This allows us to provide both an active and preventative treatment simultaneously.”

About the free course
Using proven and effective cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), the course aims to empower individuals with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to manage and overcome health anxiety effectively.

It can be accessed from anywhere and completed at one's own pace, featuring an illustrated story accompanied by practical lessons, practice exercises and additional resources. The course covers various topics such as understanding health anxiety, identifying and challenging unhelpful thoughts, how exposure therapy can help and extra resources, such as how to be supported by whānau and friends.

Over 55,000 New Zealanders are already using Just a Thought to support their mental wellbeing. All courses are free, based on proven and effective cognitive behavioural therapy, and are accessible online.
