Health Informatics New Zealand (HiNZ) has appointed a new chief executive to lead the organisation, Tim Corbett.
Corbett has a strong background in digital health and media. He was previously involved in the STOMP research project, using text messaging to help people quit smoking, and has worked across the health sector engaging with providers, government agencies, iwi, NGOs and commercial organisations.
Corbett was chief executive at the Sir John Kirwan Foundation. He has lectured at MIT, Massey, AUT and Auckland University in health promotion, and led two specialist health advertising agencies.
HiNZ board chair Karen Blake says, “we are excited to have Corbett's leadership style and expertise at the forefront of HiNZ.
“We are looking forward to working with him and the HiNZ community and staff to establish a new strategy to grow and evolve the organisation, as well as the support we provide to our members,” she says.

Corbett says the current changes in the health sector and the establishment of Te Whatu Ora, Te Aka Whai Ora and the Whaikaha, makes now the ideal time to enrich the relevance and impact of HiNZ.
“The potential is immense, and I’m looking forward to helping lead and curate that change at HiNZ through a high care, high connection culture and working collaboratively with the Board and HiNZ partners to shape and scale the vision for digital health in NZ,” he says.
Corbett adds that he sees HiNZ as a catalyst and an enabler, to bring the various sectors of the health informatics community together to help curate scalable impact across the health sector.
After eight years at the helm of HiNZ, Kim Mundell resigned from the CEO role, and is taking a well-deserved break.
HiNZ sales and marketing general manager, Kylie Williams, stepped in as acting chief executive from June of this year, and will continue in her general manager role in 2023.
Blake thanked Williams for her dedication and commitment to HiNZ as acting chief executive, helping to deliver the Digital Health Leadership Summit and 2022 Conference, and supporting the HiNZ team through a time of change.
