SECTOR UPDATE - HL7 New Zealand Kia ora koutou,
We hope that this message finds you well and enjoying the Spring weather. Once again, this is proving to be the busiest season at HL7 New Zealand, and we have some exciting news to share with the sector… NZ Word Group News We have just published the second version of the HL7 FHIR NZ Base Implementation Guide (https://fhir.org.nz/ig/base/index.html). This is the result of many months of diligent work by our HL7NZ FHIR Implementation Work Group, with broad sector representation, and passed the required Membership Ballot, held last month, with flying colours. This Guide contains the base FHIR implementation rules for New Zealand (Extensions, Profiles Identifiers, and Terminologies). It is an ‘abstract’ artefact from which all other FHIR Implementation Guides in New Zealand may be derived, and we hope that it will continue to be a valuable resource for the local FHIR community. We would also like to extend our gratitude to our members at Spark Health for kindly hosting the Guide. As it is a ‘living’ artefact, work on the next version will commence next month, and the Work Group will continue to hold regular, one-hour meetings on Fridays at 12:00pm. All interested parties are welcome to attend these meetings – further details are available on our Web Site (https://hl7.org.nz/hl7nz-fhir-implementation-work-group/). Announcements Following a series of virtual events, HL7 International held its first in-person Work Group Meeting since the Pandemic in Baltimore, USA last month. HL7NZ Chair Peter Jordan and FHIR Work Group Co-Chair John Carter were in attendance and their report on proceedings can be found here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Yk4g032sYN8EJsZ9RGZZk16JDKydl0rw/view). The Ballot on the next major release of the HL7 FHIR Standard (R5) closed on October 14th and Work Groups have until February 24th, 2023, to reconcile all the ballot comments, prior to planned publication by the end of March. Upcoming Events Tuesday 6th December 2022 - 9am to 4pm (Digital Health Week Workshop) Escape From Burning Platforms With SNOMED on FHIR. (https://www.hinz.org.nz/page/DHWNZDec22SNOMED) HL7 FHIR and SNOMED CT are our key standards for interoperability and digital transformation in our new health system. Join us for a day of lively talks about these standards and their adoption in Aotearoa New Zealand. Hear from our line-up of local and overseas experts and share your own experiences. This event is aimed at clinicians, researchers, data analysts, business analysts, implementers, and developers. Be our experts for the day and bring your laptop! Learn how the combined use of FHIR and SNOMED CT will make interoperability easier and cheaper to achieve. Ngā mihi
