Patrick Ng Patrick Ng has been appointed chief digital officer at Southern DHB.
The CDO role was created to lead the development of a digital transformation business case and subsequent transformation implementation. The digital transformation will underpin delivery of services in the New Dunedin Hospital and throughout the region. Ng has worked for technology, telecommunications and energy companies including ExxonMobil, Unisys and Sitel Group and was previously the DHBs chief operating officer. “During my time in the health sector I’ve seen first-hand the importance of needing strong digital infrastructure to transform how clinicians deliver and patients experience their care,” he says. “In our current environment, when a patient needs to traverse our health system there isn’t much integration between diagnostics, new specialist appointments, inpatient care and follow-up. Better integration is an important starting point.” Ng has also been tasked with establishing an Enterprise Programme Management Office which will develop business cases and provide assurance for all large SDHB projects.
John Ashley HiNZ board member, John Ashley, joins Webtools Health as director of strategy and growth. He has previously worked in the health IT and aged care sector in NZ, most recently as director of digital strategy at Atlantis Health.
Ashley’s new role spans product strategy, business development and developing Webtools’ strategic partnerships. He joins as Webtools enters a new phase of growth based around their FHIR-enabled Centrik digital health platform for health providers and consumers. Webtools Health chief executive Harry Hawke noted, “it’s the perfect time to bring someone with John’s experience onboard as we take on the challenge of making the access and use of health information frictionless to enable kiwis to enjoy happier and healthier lives”.
Kate Reid Kate Reid has been made partner at Deloitte, leading the Digital Health practice.
She says the opportunity to improve health and wellbeing has never been more exciting ad she is keen to continue to play her part in leveraging the full potential digital transformation can deliver for New Zealand’s healthcare system.
“I came to Deloitte to make an impact that matters and admire the commitment Deloitte has to fostering diversity and inclusion and creating phenomenal career pathways for women in technology,” Reid says.
Gabriel Akindeju Waikato DHB has recruited Gabriel Akindeju as its Chief Information Security Officer. He previously fulfilled a similar role at Mercury.
The CISO role has responsibilities for ensuring the security and technology-related business risks within the DHB are appropriately governed and managed. Akindeju is responsible for overseeing a range of technical and process security controls and leading a programme of continuous improvement in response to changing security threats and risks that may impact the health system.
The role also engages across the regional DHB service providers as part of a wider forum to provide input to improving their security postures.
Kevin Ross Precision Driven Health chief executive Kevin Ross has been appointed to the Digital Council for Aotearoa.
The Digital Council is an independent group of experts who advise the government on how to navigate the rapidly changing digital and data landscape in a way that will benefit all New Zealanders.
“The goal of the Council – to maximise the societal benefits of digital and data-driven technologies – aligns with our purpose at PDH, which is to optimise the health of every individual and their whānau by combining and learning from all available data,” Ross says.
Tony Wai Tony Wai has been appointed CEO for Third Age Health, an NZX listed company providing primary healthcare services to aged residential care across New Zealand. With a long and successful background in the healthcare sector, most recently as CFO and interim CEO of ProCare Health, he brings a wealth of experience and sector knowledge.
Wai is best known for his commercial strategies and innovative thinking including embracing technology as an enabler in healthcare provision, successes he intends to carry into the aged care sector. Having recently worked in a healthcare reforms advisory role, he is excited about the significant opportunities ahead.
Liz MacPherson Liz MacPherson has been appointed Deputy Privacy Commissioner, while the recruitment for Privacy Commissioner John Edwards’ replacement takes place. This is the first time that a Deputy Privacy Commissioner has been appointed and MacPherson will be able to fulfil all the functions of the Privacy Commissioner, to ensure the smooth operation of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner while the recruitment process takes place. MacPherson has had a long career in public service, including a six-year term as Government Statistician and New Zealand’s first Chief Data Steward.
Cam Burt Rauland New Zealand has appointed Cameron Burt as Chief Executive Officer to lead the company for its next phase of local and international growth.
Burt has over 22 years’ experience in driving sales and innovation in healthcare and information technology. He has held senior executive positions in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions for NASDAQ listed company, Cerner Corporation.
Steve Gomes, executive director at Rauland New Zealand says Burt’s appointment “will help Rauland further solidify our position as one of the leading providers of innovative technology solutions in the healthcare industry”.
Andrew Ingersoll Andrew Ingersoll joins PwC New Zealand as associate director in management consulting. Patient safety and evidence-based approaches to projects are Andrew’s expertise, in particular with digital design and implementation.
He brings 20 years of international project and clinical experience, particularly in Australia where he has recently led the design, implementation and evaluation of the COVID-19 telehealth response from South Western Sydney Local Health District, in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Ingersoll is solutions focused and welcomes complex problem solving when working on project management, benefits realisation and programme evaluation, strategy development and business intelligence through data.
