SECTOR UPDATE - Moana Research

Pregnant mum fonoMoana Research is holding Zoom fono to inform Pacific people and allow them to ask questions about the Covid-19 vaccine, in collaboration with the Immunisation Advisory Centre.

The organisation held two fono (meetings) in September via Zoom video conference, attended by more than 50 people each time.

The first targeted Pacific youth and youth communities and the second targeted Pacific women who are pregnant, and any groups or individuals working with Pacific women who are pregnant.

The purpose of these fono is to inform these specific groups within the Pacific community about the science of Covid-19, the vaccine offered in New Zealand and how it works within our bodies.

Virologist Dr Natalie Netzler and Immunologist Chris Puli’uvea (PhD candidate) provided information and there was an opportunity for participants to ask questions.

These online meetings are through a collaboration between Moana Research and the Immunisation Advisory Centre and are supported by The Ministry of Pacific Peoples and some Pacific Health Providers.

More dates for further fono will be added in October. Moana Research is looking at gathering some feedback from the next meetings.
