Ministry’s digital team win two Excellence in IT awards

Ministry of Health’s Data and Digital directorate teamThe Ministry of Health’s Data and Digital directorate won the Excellence in Digital Health and Excellence in Govtech categories in the 2021 NZ Excellence in IT Awards for their contribution to New Zealand’s Covid-19 response. 

The Ministry’s application says that the Data and Digital directorate worked with more than 20 New Zealand-based vendors to develop and deliver a number of innovative, critical technology solutions, such as the; National Contact Tracing System, Border Management and Workforce Testing Register, MIQ Patient Management System and Covid-19 Immunisation Register.

The directorate also developed the NZ COVID Tracer App and Āwhina app as well as systems for national testing and results management.
 
Deputy director general data and digital Shayne Hunter says: “this is a fantastic achievement and represents many long hours of work by our teams in partnership with many people across the health and disability sector, our industry and central agency partners and the privacy commission.

“In the face of unprecedented pressures, we have been able to lead the development of tools, systems and services to help keep New Zealanders safe and well during a pandemic,” he says. 

“It was a thrill and an honour to accept this award on behalf of the many people involved, and especially the Data and Digital team who have work tirelessly since March 2020… and are still doing so today.”
