Health Informatics New Zealand (HiNZ) CEO Kim Mundell has advised with regret the difficult decision to cancel Innovations in Digital Health (IiDH 2020) that was due to be held in Wellington on 6–7 May.
A significant proportion of IiDH delegates and speakers are doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals, many of whom have been impacted by their organisation’s travel restrictions due to COVID-19.
“HiNZ is mindful of the risks posed by large gatherings, particularly when an event has international visitors, and we have a duty of care to ensure the health and safety of all event attendees,” she said.
“We are also aware that qualified clinical staff are a precious resource, and we don’t wish for our event to be a contributing factor to any loss of clinical personnel from their local communities during this challenging period.
“The good news is that HiNZ is going to produce a virtual series that will showcase a selection of the excellent speakers planned for IiDH 2020. The showcase will include interactive elements to connect the digital health community, and it will highlight the importance of digital technologies in delivering innovation and mitigating risk within the health sector.”
