A New Zealand contingent has been formally invited to attend the Digital Health Summer School this year.

The event is being held on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 July 2019 at Leeds University in the UK. It started as an annual gathering of CCIOs, and has grown to embrace health CIOs, CNIOS, allied health and future digital leaders.

It is open to those on the Digital Health Networks (Clinical Informatics Leadership Network members in New Zealand), and is widely considered the most valuable event in the sector.

There is also a specific Health CIO stream where New Zealand health CIOs or their delegates would be welcome.

Darren Douglass, group manager digital strategy and investment at the Ministry of health attended one day of the UK Digital Health CCIO/CIO conference in 2016.

"While digital health opportunities and challenges tend to be common across the world the similarities between the health systems in England and NZ mean that there is a lot of common ground in terms of regulation, policy, funding structures etc  - more so than in the US for example - and a lot of common technology suppliers.  That helps set the context for shared learning's and engagement at the CCIO/CIO event," he says.

"The CCIO/CIO event was well organised as a combination of presentations and related round table discussions followed by a conference dinner.  The format encouraged active discussion, feedback and networking."

New Zealanders are being offered a cost-price registration fee with the proviso that they run their own session at the meeting. Anyone who attends will be welcome to join a tour to visit some of the leading lights of the UK Digital Health scene either side of the conference.

Anyone interested can contact Nathan Kershaw.
