Shayne Tong

Chief digital officer, Auckland DHB

The ADHB Information Management Services team has undergone a rename and restructure as a step in the journey towards “Auckland DHB becoming a data-driven, digitally focused healthcare provider”, a DHB spokesperson says. Shayne Tong, appointed as chief information officer a year ago, is now the chief digital officer leading the Health Information and Technology team.

He has eight direct reports in the new structure. These are clinical and business applications manager, health intelligence director, general manager directorate services, information security and risk manager, project and programmes director, data manager, advanced analytics manager and digital enablement manager. Auckland DHB is currently recruiting to fill five of the eight HIT leadership roles.

Tim Keating

Chief executive, New Zealand Health Partnerships

Tim Keating took up this role from 19 September and was previously chief of the defence force. Steve Fisher, general manager strategy, people and engagement, had been acting chief executive.

Keating will focus on the delivery of NZHP’s procurement and business intelligence-driven strategy, building strong relationships across health and the wider public sector, as well as leading the organisation’s full portfolio of work, including the National Oracle Solution.

Will Reedy

Director digital health, Spark

This newly established role will be responsible for delivering Spark’s vision and strategy for health and life sciences and reports to customer director Jolie Hodson

Spark Health is one of four growth areas for Spark and will leverage Spark’s new and existing digital services to help transform the health and life sciences sector to deliver better health outcomes. Spark Health will work across Spark and its subsidiaries to provide digital services to its current and future customers.

Reedy will continue to practice clinical medicine one day a week and provide strategic advice to health customers.

Stella Ward

Chief digital officer, Canterbury DHB and West Coast DHB

Stella Ward took up the role of chief digital officer full-time from August, after being seconded to it from March. Matt Long was acting CIO prior to this and is now ICT services manager.

A note to staff from CDHB chief executive David Meates says the board identified that “given our large-scale digital transformation and the amount of work underway to deliver the ICT requirements for our new facilities and a truly digitally enabled health system, we needed an EMT member solely focused on the delivery of this vision, and the role needed to be someone who had a clinical background.

“Stella has played a critical role as executive leader of information services group and has supported the team through the significant process of change of the ISG Way Forward, in addition to leading a significant ISG work programme. We need that leadership continuity for the next period of time, during which we bring to life new patient information systems and commission new facilities.”

Ian England

Chief executive, MercyAscot

Ian England has been appointed chief executive of MercyAscot private healthcare provider, replacing Geoff Sparkes. He has a background in hospital management in New Zealand, Australia and the UK and is a former chair of the NZ Private Surgical Hospital Association.

MercyAscot managing director Dr Andrew Wong says England’s health IT background and experience in the New Zealand healthcare industry, "are a great combination for us, especially as we embark on a significant change to our patient administration and clinical information systems”.
