MedImage app trialled

The Doctors Fred Thomas (part of the Green Cross Health network) has completed a trial of the MedImage app and MedTech connector. The MedImage app allows a photo to be tagged and securely sent directly into a medical desktop system.

John Russell, a doctor within the Fred Thomas Takapuna practice, spotted the app and started communicating with MedImage developer AtomJump in early 2017. Convinced that it would streamline the way they transferred photos into their practice management system, MedTech32, he eventually managed to get a trial phase begun with the new tool in his practice.

Russell says he has been looking for a program to easily store clinical photos on his computer for years.

“I believe MedImage is a must-have program for medical practitioners,” he says.

BestStart Educare to roll-out iMOKO

New Zealand’s largest provider of early childhood education, BestStart Educare has announced a national rollout of Lance O’Sullivan’s iMOKO health programme, allowing teaching staff to digitally upload children’s health concerns to a health professional for diagnosis and treatment.

The organisation, which runs 280 childcare centres nationwide, has also appointed former Health Minister Tony Ryall as its chief executive.

healthAlliance releases EOI

healthAlliance has released an expression of interest for medical-grade touchscreen all-in-one PC and support services for Counties Manukau DHB.

The EOI says the shared services agency wants to confirm all vendors capable of supply and ongoing support within New Zealand, determine the options that are the most appropriate solution for the clinical requirements and obtain information on potential new technologies or approaches.

“The information gained from this Request will be used to determine market interest in supply, and to shortlist suppliers who will be eligible to participate in a second phase procurement process,” it says.

Health Navigator adds new categories to health app library

Health Navigator has recently added new categories to its health app library website including apps for irritable bowel syndrome, goal setting, problem solving and motivation, and period-tracking. Health Navigator continues to review health apps to give New Zealand consumers and clinicians the information they need to decide which health apps are the best for them to use or to recommend to their patients.

New apps are being reviewed all the time. If anyone sees a gap in the apps that have been reviewed you can email Sandra.

Digital health story highlights app-based self-management programmes

The Ministry of Health has published a digital health story on its Digital Health Strategy website about the development of app-based self-management tools by Melon Health. It says that over the past five years Melon Health has developed a range of digital chronic-disease management programmes.

These incorporate online tools such as one-on-one coaching, a secure social network, health tracking, self-management modules and tools to help patients manage their physical and emotional wellbeing. Melon Health founder and chief executive Siobhan Bulfin is quoted as saying there is an opportunity for technology companies and healthcare providers to work together on exploring new innovations in this space.
