The annual showcase of technology by and for the health sector has concluded in Auckland with more than 600 attendees visiting a record number of workshops and events.

The four-day event has become a fixture on the health tech calendar and has grown considerably from the early days.

This year the innovation and investment day saw 75 attendees, the clinical trial workshop had over 50 and the MedTech CoRE event maxing out at 130.

Faye Sumner, CEO of the Medical Technology Association of New Zealand (MTANZ), says the feedback from attendees has been excellent.

“We were very pleased with the number of attendees and particularly with the quality of those who turned out, especially with such specialist subject matter being discussed.”

More than 50 speakers from around the world, including a large Kiwi contingent, covered subjects as diverse as data security, disruption of the medical environment, how health is like online banking, the future of clinical trials and how new regulations of medical devices will affect the health sector locally.

A particular focus was on ensuring access to medical technology innovations in both the public and private sectors.

Now attention will turn to prepping for next year’s event, but first Sumner says the team might have some down time.

“The team have worked extremely hard in preparing and running this event and so we might have a bit of a break before we start planning for next year.”

Sumner would like to thank the event’s major sponsors, Johnson & Johnson, IMD Group, NZMS and Medtronic and all its supporters for their involvement.

“We literally could not do this without the support and encouragement we receive from our family of sponsors. So much of our success is down to their involvement."
