Green Cross Health appoints CIO to drive digital transformation

Green Cross Health has appointed Mark Smith as Chief Information Officer, responsible for leading digital transformation across the group, a leading provider of primary health care.

Smith joins Green Cross Health from his former position as General Manager of Digital and Analytics at Fonterra, where he led a team in building and evolving its global digital ecosystem and capitalising on disruptive technologies, such as advanced analytics, IoT and AI.

Green Cross Health Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer Steve Browning says, “Mark’s extensive background in digital transformation and proven capability in driving change across what is one of New Zealand’s largest businesses will be a huge asset to us.

“This position shows we’re serious about digital transformation and future-proofing our business, so we can continue to fulfil the healthcare needs of communities throughout New Zealand.”

Smith will be responsible for the technology aspects of the Green Cross Health strategic plan, which includes creating easier access to health care through the utilisation of digital platforms, as well as the day to day systems and network operations.

Smith has spent 8 years living in New Zealand since relocating from the UK. He is a respected voice on the topics of digital transformation and business innovation in New Zealand and a member of both the Wynyard Innovation Neighbourhood and AUT Industry Advisory Board.

Green Cross Health is investing significantly in its technology infrastructure to support operational efficiencies and future growth across the Group. A vision to simplify primary healthcare for patients is behind Green Cross Health’s commitment to digital transformation, with the goal of supporting patients to proactively manage their own health using online platforms and health coaching services, in addition to face to face engagement with health professionals.

Smith commenced his new role on Monday 26 March.
