Why does HiNZ-NMI exist?

The HiNZ Nursing & Midwifery Informatics Special Interest Group (HiNZ-NMI) supports the development of nursing & midwifery informatics in New Zealand and its purpose is as follows:

  • To encourage nurses and midwives to engage with health informatics and with HiNZ
  • Providing a pool of nurses and/or midwives for potential selection to the HiNZ Board
  • Acknowledge excellence in nursing and midwifery informatics
  • To strengthen and advance the visibility of nursing and midwifery informatics in New Zealand, internationally
  • Strengthen and advance nursing and midwifery informatics through practice, policy, innovation, leadership and research

 

What is nursing informatics?

The IMIA-NI definition of nursing informatics is:

“Nursing Informatics science and practice integrates nursing, its information and knowledge and their management with information and communication technologies to promote the health of people, families and communities world-wide.”

How do I join?

Membership of HiNZ-NMI is free and anyone with an interest in nursing and midwifery informatics is welcome to join.
