Apply to be a student volunteer for the HiNZ Conference

 

Statement from a previous HiNZ volunteer

I was a graduate student in health informatics, given the opportunity to attend the HiNZ Conference. This was my first conference in the informatics field and it provided a great learning experience. Meeting conference attendees from all over New Zealand and internationally helped me to understand and appreciate what other people are doing in their practice and the career paths that lead there.This broadened my horizons and gave me many useful ideas for my practice. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to attend and experience the vibe of the informatics world.

  

Each year, HiNZ assembles a team of student volunteers to assist with tasks during the HiNZ conference. In 2020, the volunteers will be working only within sessions and won't be required to do any delegate bag inserting. Tasks include:

  • Counting delegate numbers at each session
  • Assisting the session facilitators (volunteers are allocated to specific rooms for a few sessions each)
  • Coordinating speaker gifts at the end of a session.
  • Microphone running during question time.
  • And similar tasks...

Your registration package includes:

  • Free registration to HiNZ Conference on 25-27 November 2020
  • Free access to Welcome Function on evening of Wed 25 November
  • Free access to webcast library of slides/video during conference week
  • Delegate bag with conference handbook
Conditions

Each volunteer is required to be at the conference venue at the following dates/times:

  • 7.30am to 5.30pm on Wed 25 November
  • 8am to 5.30pm on Thu 26 November
  • 8am to midday on Fri 27 November

Travel and accommodation expenses are not included within this package. A ticket to the conference dinner on Thursday 26 November is an optional extra that volunteers can purchase during registration if they wish to attend.

 

Application eligibility criteria:

  1. You must be a HiNZ student member at the time of the conference. To find out if your membership is current, email Gloria. Or join now. It is free for students to join HiNZ!
  2. You must be able to commit to being at the conference venue for the stated time period
  3. You will be allocated to conference sessions, to assist the room facilitators. 

Notification process: Volunteers applicants will be notified on email to advise if they have been accepted as a volunteer.
