Kevin Ross

CEO, Precision Driven Health
HiNZ member since 2017; HiNZ Board Member since 2018

I believe that HiNZ is one of the most important professional bodies in New Zealand, serving all New Zealanders by enabling a highly capable and connected Health Informatics community. Having served on the board since 2018, I have admired the strength of this organisation as we transitioned from a period of phenomenal growth to crisis response.

I am passionate about the role of data and data science to improve the health of New Zealanders through interoperability, prediction and early intervention. As CEO of Precision Driven Health, I connect people involved in technology, health and academia to collaborate and develop digital tools that enable clinicians to deliver more precise care. In recent years, our partnership has established over 80 projects, enabling us to build valuable tools that empower people to manage their health and their data. I am also Director of Research at Orion Health, a global healthcare platform managing data for over 100 million patients worldwide.

As the Founder and Chair of the New Zealand Data Science and Analytics Forum, I am committed to driving debate across industries on best practice in data sharing and analytics to enable us to be leaders on the world stage. I have experience on boards and advisory groups for government and academic programmes. I hold a PhD from Stanford University in Management Science and Engineering, and a BSc(Hons) from the University of Canterbury in Mathematics.

We face a challenging period ahead, and it is critical that we remain committed to the vision and community of HiNZ. Clear direction and good governance are keys to ensure that we make good decisions under uncertainty, and we will emerge stronger as a result. I believe that I can contribute to that process, and would be honoured to continue as part of this team.

Michael Hosking (CHIA, AFAIDH)

Director and Digital Health Consultant, Clinnovation Ltd
HiNZ Member since 2016; HiNZ Board Member since 2019

Since my appointment to the HiNZ board in November 2019, I have valued the opportunity to work with the board and HiNZ leadership team to continue to drive progress in health informatics within NZ, and to help develop the vision for HiNZ in the coming years.

I am passionate about assisting the collaboration of healthcare with electronic systems toward sustainable health systems and policies for equitable healthcare outcomes. As an experienced, registered Occupational Therapist I worked clinically for public health organisations across Victoria, Australia.

Poor user experience, inefficient systems and interoperability issues provided the inspiration for me to help drive change toward more effective healthcare system design.

Previously in roles with Orion Health developing their Hospital based products, Precision Driven Health leading a research project and more recently the New Zealand Healthcare and Disability System Review leading the Digital and Data workstream.

I believe in delivering outcomes, value and enabling people and teams through building relationships and developing workforce capabilities and skills.
Currently leading an initiative on localising the CHIA for NZ and co-chairing the AIDH Clinical Informatics Community of Practice in Australia, I’m energised by empowering others who want to develop their potential in applying digital technologies to improve the system that supports people.

My interests lie in effective, sustainable health policies and digital technologies facilitated by clinically lead co-design and data-driven decision making. These approaches can enable improved healthcare research, clinical workflows, patient experience and healthcare outcomes. I am driven to face healthcare challenges as opportunities for us to collaboratively explore new and alternative approaches with consumers and clinical users.

I look forward to when healthcare delivery and people’s experiences of managing their own health is enabled by digital technology in a way that becomes invisible.
