Comrad Medical Systems has signed an agreement with Nuance Communications, Inc. to become a value-added reseller for Dragon Medical Direct in New Zealand.

Through deep learning technology and sophisticated acoustic models, Dragon Medical Direct places Nuance’s leading artificial intelligence (AI) powered technology in the hands of busy clinicians enabling private and public healthcare organisations to easily and quickly deploy front-end speech recognition for all their clinical documentation needs. Increasing documentation efficiency allows for more time with patients, improved quality to better inform care teams and staff, decreased turnaround time and increased cost savings. With minimal IT administration, easy deployment, centralised management and reporting of license use, this new light-weight private cloud solution can be downloaded and installed in minutes, with clinicians dictating immediately without speech training their profile. The Dragon Medical Direct desktop app provides secure, highly accurate and portable speech recognition wherever and whenever physicians need to document – regardless of application.

Most physicians report that they spend more than 50 per cent of their working day compiling, reviewing and updating clinical documentation. “Face to face time with patients is frequently cited by doctors’ as their greatest motivator, yet administrative tasks are highly taxing on a doctor’s time.” Said Dr. Simon Wallace, Chief Clinical Information Officer at Nuance Communications. “Utilising speech recognition technology in healthcare can give doctors more time, help them create more accurate records, and reduce the burden of the EMRs. Nuance Dragon Medical Direct provides private cloud-based speech recognition supporting the ways clinicians work and is quick and easy to deploy and scale for the health institution”.

Comrad said the partnership is consistent with its purpose to improve patient experience by enabling workflow efficiencies and aligns well with the company’s strategy of accelerating revenue growth by partnering with industry leaders.

“This new agreement provides Comrad with greater access to public and private health organisation customers throughout New Zealand.” Said Elizabeth Delahunty, CEO of Comrad Medical Systems. “Additionally, this relationship is yet another Nuance award winning product added to the Comrad portfolio next to the PowerScribe 360 integration to help our customers achieve better patient outcomes and deliver the best clinical and business outcomes.”
