Workshop: HIMSS Continuity of Care Maturity Model

How do we make a patients’ journey seamless and safe within our health system? What strategies and models drive improvements in health information exchange, care coordination and patient engagement?

The HIMSS continuity of care maturity model workshop will give participants the opportunity to learn about the HIMSS model, practical examples of how the model is driving improvements in care continuity across the globe, and address local challenges. Participants will explore how the maturity model can be used as a tool to drive improvements in continuity of care.

James E Gaston, MBA, FHIMSS, has been working in healthcare information technology for over 25 years with experience in hospital, healthcare insurance, vendor, and consulting services. Mr Gaston is an expert in healthcare analytics providing education and industry insight through a variety of forums. On behalf of HIMSS Analytics he manages the globally oriented Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity and the continuity of care maturity model, serving as an expert resource for HIMSS worldwide. As Senior Director of Maturity Models with HIMSS Analytics, Mr Gaston coalesces industry insights into practical guides which healthcare organisations can use to chart their analytics, at risk payment, and continuity of care strategies.


Mr Gaston has a Masters in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science Engineering, is a HIMSS Fellow, and is an instructor for the American College of Healthcare Executives. Mr Gaston is also an avid mountain biker and ultra runner.
