Terms of Reference
The HINZ Primary Health Care Informatics Working Group is aligned with the IMIA Primary Health Care Informatics Working Group (WG 05)
Purpose:
The purpose of the HINZ Primary Health Care Working Group is to encourage and facilitate in-depth analysis and discussion between members with a particular interest in primary care informatics. The working group provides an informal environment where ideas can be discussed freely.
Further purposes include:
To support and provide a network for those working in primary health care with an interest in health informatics.
To promote primary care informatics by:
- acting as a forum for exchange of ideas between its members;
- providing information to its members to assist them in progressing primary care informatics;
- increasing the understanding of primary care informatics issues with a view to publishing the results of these discussions. To support the vision and mission of HINZ:
- Vision: Health Informatics New Zealand (HINZ) seeks to facilitate improved health care outcomes through the dissemination and utilisation of information, knowledge and technology
- Mission: To foster throughout New Zealand the development of knowledge and the utilisation of Informatics within all areas of clinical practice, education, and the provision of healthcare generally.
Functions:
- Promote primary health care informatics to the New Zealand health sector
- Promote a network of primary health care informatics enthusiasts within HINZ for ongoing support
- Discuss roles and career development within primary health care informatics
- Encourage those working in primary health care to be involved in discussions around informatics issues to ensure a primary health care perspective
- Discuss primary health care implications of HINZ decisions and recommendations
- Ensure IMIA Working Group 05 decisions and recommendations are considered for the New Zealand context and applied where appropriate
- Promote HINZ membership and participation from the primary health care sector
- Provide a forum for the sharing of primary health care developments, experiences and ideas nationally and internationally
- Discuss the implications of health informatics national strategy and policy and the implications for primary health care
Membership:
Membership is voluntary
The chairperson is appointed by the HINZ Executive Board
To be a member of this group you must be a member of HINZ, but the group is open to all those interested in primary care informatics, such as vendors, DHB and Ministry of Health staff, as well as those working in primary care.

Meetings:
Meetings will be held annually in conjunction with HINZ annual general meeting and at other times as necessary. Regular communication will be through e-mail.
