Nursing Informatics Terms of Reference

Purpose:

To support and provide a network for nurses within HINZ.

To support Nursing Informatics, as defined by IMIA-NI (International Medical Informatics Association Special Interest Group on Nursing Informatics):

• Nursing informatics is the integration of nursing, its information, and information management with information processing and communication technology, to support the health of people world wide. (IMIA-NI definition, adopted August 1998, Seoul, Korea)

To support the vision and mission of HINZ:

• Vision: Health Informatics New Zealand (HINZ) seeks to facilitate improved health care outcomes through the dissemination and utilisation of information, knowledge and technology.
• Mission: To foster throughout New Zealand the development of knowledge and the utilisation of Informatics within all areas of clinical practice, education, and the provision of healthcare generally.

Functions:

1. Promote nursing informatics to nurses
2. Promote a network of nurses within HINZ for ongoing support
3. Discuss nurses roles and career development within nursing informatics
4. Encourage nurses to be involved in discussions around informatics issues to ensure a nursing perspective
5. Discuss nursing implications of HINZ decisions and recommendations
6. Ensure IMIA-NI decisions and recommendations are considered for the NZ context and applied where appropriate
7. Promote HINZ to nurses
8. Encourage nurses to share NI experiences and ideas nationally.

Membership:

Membership is voluntary. Apply for membership here.
Open to nurses, midwives and allied health professionals and others with similar interests
Chairperson is appointed by the HINZ Exec

Meetings:

Meetings will be held annually in conjunction with HINZ annual general meeting and at other times as necessary. Regular communication will be through e-mail.
