Terms of Reference
Purpose:
To develop a Consumer Health Informatics HINZ working group, consisting of health professionals, IT consultants, librarians, academics, industry and Ministry representatives, which will assist in promoting patient partnerships.
Consumer Health Informatics (CHI) is a branch of health informatics that analyses information needs of consumers; develops, tests and implements strategies to deliver health information to consumers; integrates consumer preferences into health care information systems that promote shared health care decision making and support effective self health action. (McDaniel, Anne. M. & Stratton, Renee M. 2006)
TO SUPPORT THE VISION AND MISSION OF HINZ
Vision: Health Informatics New Zealand (HINZ) seeks to facilitate improved health care outcomes through the dissemination and utilisation of information, knowledge and technology
Mission: To foster throughout New Zealand the development of knowledge and the utilisation of Informatics within all areas of clinical practice, education and the provision of health care generally
Functions:
- Promote Consumer Health Informatics nationally to assist in encouraging the support of patients, family members and others to self manage their own care using emerging technologies i.e. health promotion, chronic condition management and peaceful end of life decisions.
- Promote a support network within New Zealand for CHI projects.
- Encourage others to share CHI project experiences, tools and ideas nationally
- Work closely with international Consumer Health Informatics groups

Membership is voluntary

Meetings
Meetings will be held annually in conjunction with HINZ annual general meeting and at other times as necessary. Regular communication will be through e-mail or Skype.
