In Search of meaningful use
A new way of stimulating systemic Health IT change is currently taking hold with some spectacular results.
Until recently the US, like most other countries, approached the implementation of health IT by commissioning and funding projects, then looking for ways in which successful projects could be scaled
up and replicated across the country. At the 2011 Conference we heard from Dr David Blumenthal, Architect of ‘Meaningful Use’,
and the new way in which health sector automation is being approached.
Meaningful Use involves setting out a programme of compliance that healthcare providers must meet in order to qualify for incentives and disincentives and then encouraging development of a market-driven model to achieve innovation and adoption.
This HINZ breakfast is your opportunity to learn more about Meaningful Use and why this approach is succeeding where other approaches have failed.
Dr Michael Stearns is President and CEO of e-MDs, one of the US’ most highly rated health IT companies he is a Board Member of the Texas e-Health Alliance. Previously Dr Stearns was the International Director of Snomed CT.
eMDs has recently completed development of one of the world’s first fully web-based electronic medical records systems. Dr Stearns discusses that here.
