This one-day symposium is a collaboration between NZHIT and HiNZ.

How will healthcare be delivered in ten years’ time, in 2027, and how will technology play its part?  This event will challenge traditional thinking and is designed to look towards the end of the next decade as if it were here now!

The New Zealand Health Strategy challenges us all to create the health system of the future that enables “All New Zealanders to live well, stay well and get well”. This transformation is based on the 5 key strategic themes of a system that is people-powered, provides services closer to home, is designed for value and high performance and works as one team in a smart system.

There is no doubt that more, and higher clinical levels of care will have to be provided in the communities and homes where people choose to live, work and play. Hence, this symposium will focus on the strategic theme of “Closer to Home” as described in the NZ Health Strategy.

In a society that is changing, growing and diversifying how will technology enable models of care that must transform to meet individual and population needs. The changes are already occurring both locally and globally – precision medicine, genomic sequencing, tele and virtual care, nanotech will be joined by technologies that haven’t yet been thought of.

This is an action-packed day of topics focussed on what’s happening in the New Zealand health technology environment that will enable the changing models of care over the coming 10 years -

  • The NZ Health Strategy, Innovation and the Vision for Health Technology: Ann-Marie Cavanagh (Chief Technology & Digital Services Officer) and Darren Douglass (Deputy Director eHealth), Ministry of Health
  • 7 key emerging technology trends and the impact they will have (or not!) on healthcare in the coming years: Dr David Dembo, General Manager, Orion Health Australia
  • Emerging Technology in Transport & its Potential Impacts on Healthcare and Health: Ralph Samuelson Ph.D., Principal Scientist – Transport Modelling, Ministry of Transport
  • A health trip advisor approach to increase engagement with healthcare providers: John Williams, Executive Director, Healthpoint Ltd
  • How Plunket will look in 2027 (changing the way we work and the organisational model to enable this): Amanda Malu (Chief Executive) and Lois van Waardenburg (COO), NZ Plunket
  • Increasing the Productivity of the Unregulated Health Workforce: Ray Lind, CEO Careerforce
Plus many more topics with high level, expert presenters including –
  • The “Virtuality” of Healthcare in the Future: Dr Lance O’Sullivan, Dr Ruth Large, Dr Nigel Murray and Greg Garratt talking about the changing nature of healthcare delivery using virtual technologies
  • The Virtual Homecare Platform: How Mycare is transforming the way we’ll organise healthcare closer to home
  • Blockchain in Health: Sean Au (talkcrypto and blackchain evangelist) will provide an introduction (“blockchain for dummies”) to this incredibly important topic Whanau Ora – is it the integrated care model of the future?

Wait, there’s more - a snap shot of emerging New Zealand made technologies that will enable more responsive, targeted care delivered closer to home.
