HINZ Study Award
Funding is available from HINZ to support postgraduate students in their Health Informatics studies.
HINZ's vision is to facilitate improved health care outcomes through the dissemination and utilisation of information, knowledge and technology. Developing knowledge of the health informatics workforce is essential for New Zealand to continue to be a global leader in the use of health information technology.
Criteria for qualifying for a Study Award
The HINZ Study Award is designed to contribute up to $1,500 towards the enrolment fees of postgraduate courses that are either health informatics courses or are linked to a qualification in health informatics. Examples include:
- Health informatics courses. An example is a course called Principles of Health Informatics and is part of a health informatics programme. Alternatively, the course could be part of another programme such as a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Management
- Courses related to health informatics, e.g. project management, which are part of a health informatics programme
- Masters dissertation/thesis enrolment fee, if the dissertation/thesis topic is directly related to health informatics
- PhD enrolment fee, if the thesis topic is directly related to health informatics
This award will be rendered invalid if you have successfully applied for another source of funding to cover enrolment fees for the course named in this application.
Availability of the Study Award
This is a contestable Award.
Closing dates for applications are 30 April and 30 September each year.
The number of students qualifying for and being granted this Award is subject to available funds and the HINZ Education Working Group’s assessment of applications that qualify for those funds.
What the Award covers
The Award consists of the following funds and benefits.
- Course/dissertation/thesis enrolment fees up to $1,500.00
- HINZ membership for the year of your Award. Please refer to the HINZ website for membership benefits www.hinz.org.nz
- Complimentary student registration at HINZ Conference for the year of your Award
If successful in your application for a HINZ Study Award you are required to:
- Submit a report by the end of the year of your Award. This report should include:
- The result/grade of that course, or progress made in your dissertation/thesis covered by the Award
- A summary of your health informatics activities, e.g. your attendance at the conference and any seminars, and any contributions you made during this period to any HINZ working group activities of interest to you, or other health informatics-related activities
- Any further comments you would like to make
- Share from your learning through a HINZ seminar, workshop, poster or a conference paper
How to apply
Complete the HINZ Study Award online form, with your supporting documents. Incomplete applications cannot be processed.
The closing dates for applications are April 30 and September 30 each year.
Applications will be considered by the HINZ Education Working Group. You will be notified of the result of your application. If your application is successful the approved amount will be transferred to your bank account.
