HINZ Study Award

Funding has been made available by HINZ to support postgraduate students in Health Informatics.

‘It’s important that we encourage people who want to develop their health informatics capability, and helping them defray the costs of enrolling in health informatics courses is one of the best ways of doing this’, says Prof Jim Warren, HINZ Chair.

HINZ is doing just that with the new HINZ Study Award.

Criteria

The HINZ Study Award will contribute towards the enrolment fees of postgraduate courses that are either health informatics courses or are linked to a qualification in health informatics. Examples include:

  • Health informatics courses, e.g. Principles of Health Informatics, that are part of a health informatics programme OR are included in other programmes, e.g. Postgraduate Diploma in Health Management
  • Courses related to health informatics, e.g. project management, that are part of a health informatics programme
  • Masters dissertation/thesis  enrolment fee*, if the dissertation/thesis topic is directly related to health informatics
  • PhD enrolment fee*, if the thesis topic is directly related to health informatics.

NOTE: This award will be rendered invalid if you have successfully applied for another source of funding to cover enrolment fees for the course named in this application.

*Where the enrolment covers more than one unit period of study, e.g. more than one semester/year, the HINZ Health Informatics Study Award will cover one unit period of study (one semester or one year) at a time. Further cover may be considered upon another application from you and granted at the discretion of the HINZ Executive Committee, i.e. it is up to the discretion of the HINZ Executive Committee to cover more than one semester or one course of study for one person.

If your application is successful, you will also receive free HINZ membership for the year of your Award, and complimentary student registration at that year’s HINZ Conference.

Once you have completed your course, you will be required to submit a report on your progress, the results of that course/dissertation/thesis enrolment covered by the Award, and any further comments you would like to make. If your award contributed to the enrolment fee for one period unit for a dissertation/thesis, you are encouraged to submit a paper to the HINZ Conference for the year of your Award or the next year.

Availability

The number of students qualifying for and being granted this Award is subject to available funds and the HINZ Executive Committee’s assessment of applications that qualify for those funds. This is a contestable Award.

How to apply

Complete the HINZ Study Award application form (see below). The following documents are also required:

  • Research proposal describing your planned research (for Masters or PhD).

The closing dates for applications are April 30 and September 30 each year.
