In the first HINZ seminar for 2010, we laid out a game plan for Enabling Sector-Wide eHealth Transformation. The next two seminars will focus on Assembling the Building Blocks, particularly patient-held records and e-referrals. During 2008 and 2009, the HINZ Seminar Series focused on the topic of whether and how to share electronic health records. This year we continue in this role, informing the debate and discussion on how we go forward and create an interoperable environment.  The theme for the 2010 HINZ Seminar Series is Enabling Sector-Wide eHealth Transformation, and the first seminar is entitled Laying out the Game Plan

For the past year, Health Informatics New Zealand (HINZ) has been endeavouring to stimulate debate re the development of a national electronic health records strategy. Development of a viable information sharing strategy is becoming more and more important to the New Zealand health sector. On one hand the pressure on the system to develop safe, reliable and easy to use mechanisms for sharing patient information is mounting.   On the other hand we are becoming more and more aware of the complexities and challenges of doing so.
